July does not bring great news to streaming platforms in the form of series. Two Spanish literary adaptations, the return of a great lady of cinema such as Susan Sarandon, a remake of a cult film and a couple more international series with a certain hook. This is the selection on offer here. Also highlight the return with its second seasons of Foundation (Apple TV, day 14) and Good Omens (Amazon Prime Video, 28).

THE RESORT Movistar Plus (7)

Thriller comedy produced by Sam Esmail (Mr. Robot) and written by Andy Siara (Palm Springs). In 2007, two teenagers on vacation meet at a resort on the Riviera Maya in Mexico shortly before they disappeared just the night before a hurricane hits. Fifteen years later, Emma (Cristin Milioti) and Noah (William Jackson Harper) arrive at the same place to celebrate their tenth anniversary and try to save their marriage. There they accidentally find the first clue in years about the whereabouts of the missing couple and decide to investigate the case.

DJANGO SkyShowtime (10)

Based on Sergio Corbucci’s 1966 cult film (and which inspired Quantin Tarantino’s 2012 film Django Unchained), this series is set in Texas at the end of the 19th century. Django arrives in a barren town located at the bottom of a crater: New Babylon. On his mission, he searches for the men who murdered his family, but discovers that his daughter Sarah has survived and is there. Sarah is about to marry John Ellis, the founder of New Babylon, who doesn’t want Django in town. However, he does not give up and will look for his daughter to give him a second chance.

DANGEROUS COMPANIES Disney (12)

Adaptation of a South Korean series. A criminal, Charlie (Milo Ventimiglia), and an undercover CIA agent, Emma (Catherine Haena Kim), fall in love without knowing that their professions are incompatible. As Charlie improves the “family business” so he can get out of it once and for all, Emma grows closer to the vengeful criminal to whom Charlie’s family is in debt. They will have to take into account the lies that have been told in order to save themselves and their families from terrible consequences.

MONARCH Axn Now (14)

Susan Sarandon heads the cast of this series. She plays the head of the Roman family, Dottie Cantrell, an unattainably talented queen of country music married to Albie (Trace Adkins). Dottie and Albie have founded a dynasty in music. And while the last name Roman is synonymous with authenticity, the foundation of her success is a lie. When her dominance as country royalty is jeopardized, heir to the crown, Nicolette Nicky (Anna Friel), will try to protect her family legacy.

BITCHES Atresplayer (16)

Adaptation of the first novel of the literary trilogy by Noemí Casquet. Andrea Ros, Mirela Balic and Tai Fati lead the cast of this fiction that consists of eight episodes and in which they play Alicia, Diana and Emily, three girls who have nothing to do with it. Each one is from a different social stratum, with previous experiences and a very different personality. But they do have something in common: the same desire to have fun, to take risks, to free oneself, to empower oneself and to try everything. For this they found “the club of foxes” with the aim of fulfilling their sexual fantasies.

KIDS IN CRIME Movie (18)

Recent Norwegian production that has become one of the most impressive European series in recent years with a fast-paced story about friendship, love and youth, wrapped in humor and violence, winner of four Gullruten awards (the Oscars for cinema and Norwegian television). In the year 2001, Tommy, a young soccer player whose career has been cut short by a knee injury, and his friend Pal Pot, who has been dealing with ADHD for years, plunge into the underworld of drugs in this series defined by some as halfway between Euphoria and Trainspotting.

A PERFECT TALE Netflix (28)

After the success of Valeria, the platform launches another series based on a novel by Elisabet Benavent that takes place on this occasion in Greece. Margot (Anna Castillo) is the heiress to a major hotel empire. David (Álvaro Mel) subsists with three jobs and sleeping on the couch of his best friends. When chance brings their paths together, they will discover that they have more in common than they think and that they are the only ones capable of helping each other to recover their partners.
