Enzo Ferrari once said that “the most beautiful car is the one that we still have to do.” And looking at the recent creative activity of the Maranello brand, Il commendatore would be a completely happy man. After the Purosangue, the brand’s first SUV -although they refuse to define it that way-, comes a beauty in the form of a 2 2 convertible called Roma Spider. That is, the uncovered version of the coupe presented in 2020.

The new model from the Cavallino firm exudes an undeniable timeless elegance and reinterprets in a contemporary key the Italian style of the fifties and sixties, an era that was distinguished by the refinement of sporty models and the joy of living.

Under the direction of Flavio Manzoni, from the Centro Stile Ferrari, the Roma Spider is inspired by convertibles such as the 365 GTS4, the famous Daytona of 1969. It is a spider that incorporates a refined fabric top, designed to enhance the proportions of the car , without altering its flowing body line.

To redesign the roof, which is steeply sloped at the rear, Ferrari had to rethink the geometry of the rear window. Thus, in the Roma Spider, it is integrated into the structure of the hood itself.

In addition, the top can be folded or unfolded electrically at a speed of up to 60 km/h, in just 13.5 seconds. And so that turbulence is not a problem while driving the car, there is a wind deflector that can be deployed via a button located between the seats.

They explain in Ferrari that one of their priorities has been the soundproofing of the passenger compartment, as if it were a closed-structure car. For this, a special five-layer fabric has been chosen for the hood. And the roof is collected in the form of a Z, occupying 220 mm of height in the trunk, a really small space.

Of course, to travel with luggage it will be better to do it with the hood deployed to take advantage of the 255-liter boot capacity of the Roma Spider. The 620PS engine is part of the prestigious twin-turbo V8 family, which has won the International Engine of the Year award for four consecutive years. With a long list of interested clients, the price of this mechanical jewel starts at approximately 250,000 euros.
