I share in Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia these photographs taken in the Alt Empordà region on a summer evening.
Specifically, the images correspond to a field of sunflowers located around Vilanova de la Muga, a small town with only 250 inhabitants.
It seemed to me that the sunset was beautiful with the silhouette of the church in the background and the sunflowers always so cheerful and striking. The afternoons are starting to get shorter.
Sunflower is an annual herbaceous plant of the Asteraceae family, native to Central and North America and cultivated as food, oilseed and ornamental throughout the world.
The planting season for rainfed crops varies according to latitude, but lasts approximately one month from the beginning of summer.
The sunflower is undemanding in the type of soil, although it prefers clay-sandy ones rich in organic matter, but it is essential that the soil have good drainage and the water table is at a shallow depth.
