I share in Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia this series of photographs of the first moon of July, captured after midnight, from the stone bridge in the old town of Girona.
Belonging to the Inventory of the Architectural Heritage of Catalonia, the Stone Bridge crosses the Onyar River. It was built during the reign of Isabel II.
This bridge replaced a previous one of medieval origin known as Pont de Sant Francesc or Pont de Frasmenors.
The construction of the Pont de Pedra in Girona began in 1850, after moving the market to Palanca d’en Vila. Two years later, in 1852, the works stopped, and it was not until 1854 when they resumed.
Although the bridge ended up being inaugurated in 1856, the passage of time and new trends have subjected it to some renovations. Currently, it is one of the tourist attractions of the city.
