The San Juan bridge marks a before and after in the calendars of the campsites, so we must have everything ready so that the downtime of the caravan does not take its toll on us during the holidays. Below we explain how to prepare it and what details we must take into account to avoid unpleasant surprises.

Many caravan users take advantage of the low spring season to camp in their little house on wheels, but others do so already in the middle of summer. Undoubtedly, this is one of the most valued advantages of this recreational vehicle, which allows us to have a second mobile home to install in the mountains or on the beach according to our vacation preferences.

As we have indicated in other articles, leaving a vehicle parked for long periods of time can cause problems later if a review is not carried out before use. Winter is a hard time for many materials and devices present in the caravan, such as electrical appliances or water and gas pipes.

Carrying out good maintenance throughout the year will avoid major repairs and achieving it is easier than it seems. It all starts by choosing a suitable parking place, betting on specific land that has areas protected from the sun, surveillance and specific facilities for recreational vehicles.

Once we have found the ideal parking space that suits our needs, budget and location, it will be necessary to make sure that the caravan is kept clean and free of moisture. We are not only talking about the superficial cleaning of the dust, but about elements such as the refrigerator, the pipes and the bathroom. Dirty and humid environments attract animals, creating a prone space for the settlement of species that we do not want as caravan neighbors.

Ventilation plays a key role in preventing the aforementioned condensation and moisture buildup. The only way to avoid this situation is to visit the parking lot from time to time and open the windows/skylights as we would with a second home.

In this sense, choosing an isolated and protected parking space gives us confidence, but it is not the only thing we can do. It is advisable to get a cover that protects the body, thus avoiding dust, radiation, inclement weather and debris typical of camping areas.

If we have complied with the maintenance in low season, the trip should start on wheels, and never better said. The caravan tires are one of the most forgotten, and relevant, elements of the set. Since they move very little, two to four times a year, the gums can degrade, crystallize or expire without us being aware of it. We cannot ignore it, since it will directly affect safety during circulation.

Before leaving the parking area, we will check that all the accessories are in order.
