Gijón City Council launches ‘Gijón bici’, the new shared electric bicycle rental service.
The system, which replaces the previous free mechanical bicycle service, is conceived as an individual transport service complementary to the urban public transport network, according to a press release from the Gijón City Council.
It will have a fleet of 250 bikes distributed in 47 stations throughout the city and can be used both by the people of Gijón and by those who visit the city, through the mobile application ‘Gijón bici’ or the Citizen Card.
The new bicycles are oriented to cover small daily journeys and their availability will be framed within a wide schedule, from 6:00 am to midnight, 365 days a year.
Each bicycle will be electronically connected to a control center that will manage the supply and demand of the entire public service.
In this way, the system will make it possible to make reservations for a bicycle at a specific station and with a maximum advance notice of fifteen minutes. After five minutes of the reserved time, without it having been used, the reserved bicycle will be released.
On the other hand, if a user does not make three reservations in a period of one month (that is, he makes the reservation but does not release the bicycle and the established five minutes of the reserved time elapse), he will be penalized with a five-euro surcharge and will not You will be able to use the reservation service for 30 days.
In this sense, the service may be used by people over 14 years of age.
