A firefighter who was working to extinguish a fire in a parking lot in the city of Saint Denis, caused by the riots that France has been experiencing for six days in the northern outskirts of Paris, has died, Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin announced.

In a message on his Twitter account, the minister explained that the dead man, who was 24 years old, was a chief corporal of the Paris Fire Brigade.

His death, in circumstances that have not yet emerged in an underground car park in this popular city on the northern outskirts of Paris, occurred despite the rapid intervention of his colleagues, Darmanin stressed.

Local media such as Le Parisien have pointed out that the young man suffered a heart attack while he and 200 other people were fighting a fire in the parking lot of an apartment building.

Shortly before giving this information, his department had communicated provisional data for the riots on the night of Sunday to Monday, with 157 arrests recorded and three law enforcement officers injured.

More than 3,000 people have been arrested since this social outbreak began on June 27 with the death by police shooting of a 17-year-old boy who was driving without a license and skipped a control.

One of the most serious incidents since then was the attack by several individuals who threw a burning car into the house of the mayor of the city of L’Haÿ les Roses, on the outskirts of Paris, Vincent Jeanbrun, on the night of Saturday to Sunday. .

Jeanbrun was not at home at the time – he had stayed on duty at the Town Hall – but his wife and two children, aged 5 and 7, were. The woman and one of the children were injured. These facts are being investigated by the Justice as an assassination attempt.

In an interview on Monday with the BFMTV channel, the mayor denounced a premeditated act, since the car was stolen, and stressed that the “criminal” will of the authors, who maintained their plans to burn down the house despite seeing that there were people inside.
