Full of symbolism and with four human columns starting from different points in Barcelona to Plaza Espanya. This is how the Catalan National Assembly (ANC) proposes this year’s Onze de Setembre demonstration, which will take place under the motto “Via fora!” and with which the commitment of the sovereign entities for the confrontation against “the enemy” will be highlighted. “After the failure of the dialogue with Spain, it is necessary for citizens to take the reins and return to confrontation,” said the president of the ANC, Dolors Feliu.
Each one of these columns acquires a name: “Libertad”, which will leave from the Ciutat de la Justícia; “Language”, with the beginning of the march from the Escola Proa, created in 1966 during the Franco regime as an alternative to the school model of the regime; “Cultura”, from Països catalans square, and “Sovereignty”, from Letamendi square, where the headquarters of the Tax Agency are located.
On this occasion, the shirts will be blue, to appeal to Europe and coinciding with the Spanish presidency of the Council of the European Union.
As indicated by the president of the ANC, Dolors Feliu, the objective of the demonstration is to demonstrate that the Catalan people “continue to mobilize for their freedoms and for independence”, and that they do so from what their entity considers as “the transversality of the civil society movement.
According to Efe, it is also sought, Feliu added, to vindicate the need for “a national pact of the civil movement for independence”, but the ANC will once again visualize the progressive distancing of this entity with the pro-independence political parties.
Feliu has assured that the “final act” of the demonstration has not yet been designed but, in principle, there will not be a space reserved for the authorities, including the president of the Generalitat, nor for the parties, because as he has said, the ANC wants to “focus” the mobilization on “the civil movement” and the entities. Òmnium Cultural will be an active part of the event, as will the Consell de la República.
The ANC’s commitment is to concentrate the leadership on the entities that already participated in the National Conference of the so-called Civil Independence Movement that took place a few months ago.
Regarding the consultation that the ANC is holding today so that the associates take a position on a proposal for abstention or invalid voting in the face of the general elections of 23J, Feliu has limited himself to pointing out that it represents “a success” to have called it in view of the “a lot of debate” that it provokes, and that the results will be known this Tuesday.
