A screenshot of a graph with the results of “Chueca” of the municipal elections of May 28, 2023 circulates on social networks, in which it can be seen that the Popular Party would have won in this place, while the PSOE would have been left in second place. As the image only mentions “Chueca”, without specifying a location, some people have interpreted that it is the Chueca area of ??Madrid. But the results correspond to the municipality of Chueca, in Toledo.
These contents have been shared on platforms such as Twitter and Facebook coinciding with LGTBIQ Pride, since Chueca is the epicenter of the different events that take place in Madrid on these dates.
Some people who have confused both territories with the same name have spread messages such as the following: “Remind liberals that in Chueca, the PP swept away the PSOE in the municipal elections. As much as you deny it, the majority of Spanish homosexuals are right-wing”. It is true that, in this area of ??Madrid, the PP was the first party in percentage of the vote, but the party that came in second place was Más Madrid, not the PSOE.
The results of the 2023 elections of the viral graph correspond to Chueca, municipality of Toledo
The results of the 2023 municipal elections in Chueca, Toledo are available on the website of the Ministry of the Interior. In it you can see that the PP has obtained four councilors, while the PSOE, one, data that coincides with those of the viral photo.
On the other hand, the 2023 results of Chueca, in Madrid, have been different. Chueca is not a neighborhood or district, but an area within the Justicia neighborhood, as explained to Newtral.es from the Madrid City Council. There are certain places that citizens can identify with this area, such as the Plaza de Chueca and its surroundings; but it is a delimitation open to interpretation. That is why at Newtral.es we have chosen the results of the entire Justicia neighbourhood.
As can be seen in the following map of the municipal elections, in the entire neighborhood the party with the most votes has been the PP, followed by Más Madrid –not PSOE–, and depending on the census section there may be more or less differences in vote percentage .
For example, in section 77, where the Plaza de Chueca and the San Antón market are located, PP and Más Madrid are at a distance of 3.9 percentage points (23 votes apart). While in section 87, where Santa Bárbara square enters, the popular ones have obtained a difference of up to 45.1 percentage points (334 votes) with respect to the second party.
As for the regional ones, the 2023 results for the Chueca neighborhood do not differ to a great extent. The PP continues to color the map blue, while Más Madrid has been the second force in all census sections of the Justicia neighborhood, in addition to the fact that the distance between the two parties is greater.

From Newtral.es we have carried out a search in different media to find the viral graph of the results of Chueca in 2023, and the most similar image is found in La Vanguardia.
On the website of this medium, it is specified that the results of the Toledo municipality of Chueca in the 2023 municipal elections are being shown. We have searched the Web Archive digital archiver if this medium would have modified the text that appeared at the top of the data, but this has not been the case.
That is to say, that in the event that the capture had been taken from La Vanguardia, the viral image could have been edited to eliminate the word “municipal”. Both images can be compared below.
