The last week ended with three women killed by male violence and some in serious condition after being assaulted by their partner or ex-partner. And this week, which has just begun, has also begun with another 53-year-old woman murdered in her home in Alcalá de Henares, by a 25-year-old friend, who notified the police of the crime. Last night the police were investigating whether, as some acquaintances explained, the two had a sporadic relationship.
The previous case happened this weekend in Pamplona. A 51-year-old man of Chinese nationality surrendered to the municipal police after murdering his partner, a 47-year-old woman of the same nationality, in the bar they ran in the city. The woman’s children gave a statement to the police to confirm that the assailant lived with their mother and had a romantic relationship, in addition to being partners in the bar.
If the emotional relationship between the victim and the aggressor of Alcalá de Henares is confirmed, he would be the 26th fatal victim of male violence since the beginning of the year; and 1,209 since 2003, the year murders began to be officially counted.
The Government Delegation for Gender Violence has not updated the statistics with these two new crimes. But yesterday he did confirm two more sexist crimes that became known just a few days ago. One happened in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat on June 20. The 35-year-old victim had a young son. Her partner threw her out the window. And despite the fact that the woman died after two days, it wasn’t until the following week that the man appeared in court to confess to the crime.
The other recently confirmed case is that of a 36-year-old woman who died on June 29 from injuries inflicted by her partner the day before in Móstoles, Madrid. The 47-year-old man stabbed her and ran away, although he was later arrested. The victim also had a minor son and had previously reported his attacker. In fact, the woman slept with a knife under the pillow in the rented room. In this case, the woman had filed numerous complaints and had a restraining order that she herself asked to lift.
With these last two minors, there are already 25 girls and boys who have been orphaned by male violence this year.
The Mossos d’Esquadra arrested a 30-year-old man on Sunday night for the violent death of a woman in a Salou hotel. The couple, of Irish nationality, were on holiday.
On Sunday, the National Police released the man arrested the previous day in Burgos for the death by hanging of his partner on charges of gender violence. The autopsy determined that the cause of death was “compatible with a suicide by hanging.” The man has a history of gender violence against a previous partner.
In addition to the last five murders, two more women were seriously injured by their partner or ex-partner. In Malaga, a woman remains in serious condition after her ex-partner shot her with a firearm on June 27. The next day, a man threw his partner off the balcony in the Valencian town of The woman was taken to a health center, although her life was not in danger. The man already had a restraining order.
It takes a lot to be able to concentrate so much horror in so few lines without using a single adjective.
