An urban planning project inherited from the defunct developer Vallhermoso has come to light once again promoted by Sareb, which has alarmed the residents of the Canyet neighborhood, in Badalona. The partial plan on the Carabassa stream seriously endangers one of the last large green spaces available to the city, so those affected have started a campaign to stop its approval.
The project, which dates back to the 1980s and was permanently halted in 2007, has been reactivated by Sareb and envisages the construction of a 20-metre-wide road that would cross an entire hill declared to be of natural interest, with expectations geological and heritage. The work, according to ecologists, would seriously damage the Iberian town of Turó d’en Boscà, of which only 80% has been excavated.
In addition to the road, the project envisages the construction of 86 luxury homes in the heart of Bellavista’s green lung, an area that residents claim can be preserved as a natural park. There are centuries-old oak trees and carob trees of high ecological value, which serve as shelter for a great diversity of fauna.
In November 2022, the governing board of the Badalona City Council (PSC, ERC, ECP and JxCat), according to the residents, initially approved the urbanization project, which set off all the alarms of the local entities, who have presented allegations in the sense that they consider it a serious ecological attack favored by the real estate speculation of the bad bank. The current PP government has assured that it will thoroughly study the project and meet with those affected.
Residents are asking for the project to be reformulated based on the metropolitan general plan of the 1970s, whose priorities have changed. The residents of the area claim that the Miravitges pass and the Carbassa stream is a forest area of ??high heritage value that must be subject to preservation that must be adapted to the reality of the 21st century .
According to the neighbors, the plan also violates heritage regulations because it ignores the archaeological interest of the location of the Iberian town of Can Paitolo and the environmental legal system that promotes the fight against climate change. In addition, the urban project would seriously affect six underground water mines that cross the subsoil of the Canyet neighborhood.
