A robber died this Thursday after exchanging shots with the National Police while trying to flee from a bank branch on Condesa de Mencía street in the Vista Alegre neighborhood of the Burgos capital after attempting to carry out a robbery.

According to police sources, the thief had entered the Banco Santander branch around eleven in the morning to commit the crime, for which he sprayed one of the bank workers with gasoline. The assailant was carrying a firearm. One of the employees has followed him the first meters of the escape and has alerted the National Police by telephone.

As Europa Press has been able to collect, it has led to an exchange of shots between the robber and the agents of the National Police, who had surrounded the bank.

According to the first investigations, the assailant pointed the gun at the agents, who had to proceed to repel the intervention. Finally, the robber was wounded by a bullet and was treated by health personnel in a Mobile ICU to try to stabilize him. However, the health services confirmed his death shortly after.

In addition to the mobile UVI, four units of the National Police have been transferred to the scene of the events. It is ruled out that there were more injuries in the shooting.
