There is a belief among die-hard Ferrari fans that when the legendary Maranello brand makes good, extraordinary, street cars, things go proportionally the other way around in F1.

Being difficult, not to say impossible to demonstrate, the fact is that Ferrari is living a sweet year outside the circuits. Not only are they selling more cars than ever, they are also daring to break tradition and venture into an SUV. This is the case of Purosangue, launched a few months ago, which has had unprecedented success.

This course has also presented the Roma Spider, a 2 2 convertible inspired by the famous Daytona of 1969, and which recovers the concept of the retractable fabric roof in an elegant car to enjoy the open sky.

But the novelties for this 2023 do not end here. Thus, Ferrari has just presented on the same day the SF90 XX Stradale and the SF90 XX Spider, the most extreme versions of the well-known SF90.

They are both two extraordinary cars included in the XX program, created and designed for the circuit, although they can be legally registered and driven on the street.

The initials XX, by themselves, give a lot of respect and involve a development that goes beyond a more or less performance sports car. No, a Ferrari XX is something else. Perhaps for this reason they will be produced in limited editions of 799 units, the SF90 XX Stradale, and 599 the SF90 XX Spider.

These special series are also a real gold mine for Ferrari, since they generate enormous demand among their regular customers as they are practically unique editions.

A strategy that has been dominated in Maranello since the first XX editions, such as the 2005 FXX derived from the Enzo. Or the 2010 599XX. However, those models could not be registered. But this strategy evolves and now the Italian manufacturer merges, for the first time, the concepts of the XX program (special cars for special clients who want to enjoy them on the circuit) with that of the special series.

The mechanical base of these two authentic kings of speed is formed by a V8 twin-turbo gasoline engine located in the rear central position. This impressive engine produces 797 hp at 7,900 rpm, although Ferrari claims that it reaches 8,300 rpm, the moment of injection cutoff. Compared to the “normal” version of the SF90, it receives numerous improvements in the intake, exhaust system and pistons.

In addition to the powerful V8, there are three additional electric motors, one located between the engine and gearbox, and the remaining two located in the rear. The electrical power is a total of 233 CV, thanks to a 7.9 kWh battery that offers 25 km of autonomy. Yes, a Ferrari that moves in electric mode and up to 135 km/h. New Times.

This PHEV (plug-in hybrid) technology will allow both models to display the ECO label in Spain. But the most amazing data is the total power. The sum of the gasoline V8, plus the three electric motors, gives a result of 1,030 hp. Almost nothing.

However, the most important and visible changes are aerodynamic in nature. For example, a spectacular spoiler dominates the silhouette of the car. A fact that has not occurred since the unforgettable F40 and F50, since Ferrari has always acknowledged being reluctant to fixed wings on street cars.

We assume that the very high performance of this car that can be registered has determined this change of idea. That, and that an XX, by concept, has to be even more striking.

The truth is that this rear wing (with an active piece based on speed) and the new front splitter, make the downforce reach 530 kg at 250 km/h.

And on the Spider version, the roof panel is motorized, and can be opened or closed while driving at speeds of up to 45 km/h, an operation that takes just 14 seconds.

The interior combines details of competition with a quality typical of luxury cars, with materials such as carbon fiber. Particularly noteworthy are the extremely light competition seats, also made of carbon fiber.

The SF90 XX Stradale weighs only 1,565 kg, a very commendable figure considering that it is a plug-in hybrid car that has three electric motors that add up to 233 CV.

The first units of the SF90 XX Stradale will reach their lucky owners during the first half of 2024. The approximate price is around 800,000 euros. Even more exclusive, the SF90 XX Spider will arrive at the end of the year and will be 80,000 euros more expensive. And, we warn you, they are all sold.
