Pope Francis has appointed this Friday the bishop of Solsona Francesc Conesa synodal father for the XVI Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops, which will hold its first session from October 4 to 29, 2023 in Rome and in which Vicente Jiménez will also participate Zamora, bishop emeritus of Zaragoza and coordinator of the Synod in Spain and Luis Argüello García, archbishop of Valladolid.

“Today it has been made public that Pope Francis has called me a Synodal Father, granting me the opportunity and the responsibility to participate in the final phase of the Synod of Bishops”, the Bishop of Solsona has communicated in a letter to his diocesans in which he expresses his thanks to his “brother bishops” for having chosen him.

“I believe that my first mission will be to contribute the diversity and richness present in the Episcopal Conference that sends me and, of course, also contribute the intuitions that as the bishopric of Solsona we have gathered in the synodal work of recent months”, he affirmed addressing the congregation

“I am glad – he also says – that our small diocese of Solsona can be heard in such an important Assembly. I think it will also be an enriching experience to be able to listen to other bishops, priests, religious and lay people from other countries and cultures.

Francesc Conesa apologizes in advance, since during October of this year and 2024 he will not be able to be residing in the diocese or attend directly to the pastoral care of the bishopric and asks his diocesans to pray for the Synod and for his person “so that successfully complete the task.”
