The Dutch Annemiek Van Vleuten, of the Spanish team Movistar, achieved her fourth victory in the Giro d’Italia this Sunday, which concluded with a stage in which the Italian Chiara Consonni won the sprint.
The Movistar cyclist was the dominator of the race almost from the beginning and her three stage wins served not only to consolidate her first place, but also to send a message to her competitors of the strength and motivation she had to take the final pink jersey that he also won in 2019, 2019 and 2022.
Van Vleuten led the general classification with a 3:56 minute advantage over the French Juliette Labous and 4:23 over the Italian Gaia Realini.
The Spanish Mavi García finished the Giro in seventh place, at 6:25, and her compatriot Ane Santesteban was tenth, at 9:12.
The Dutch woman also won the points and mountains classifications; and Movistar was the team winner, with a 46-second advantage over FDJ-Suez.
Since La Vuelta in 2021, Van Vleuten has dominated the three-week races, winning the last six grand tours between the Tour, Giro and Vuelta.
