The Ball de Diables de Tarragona has denounced that a member of the entity has suffered a sexist attack during the celebration of a correfoc in Sitges last Friday. According to an official statement published via Twitter and signed by this entity and six others, the attack took place within the framework of the ‘Sitges Cases Noves 2023’ correfoc.

“Under the pretext of massive popular street parties, there are people who take the opportunity to commit attacks, in a group and protected by the darkness of the moment and the party,” the statement said. The Ball de Diables de Tarragona and the rest of popular entities claim to expand and improve the protocols in these spaces to prevent them from occurring and respond quickly in case of aggression.

In the statement they also support all the support for the member who has suffered the aggression and express their “total” rejection.

The Sitges City Council also rejected the attack and offered support to the victim. The consistory has explained that, as soon as it learned of the events on Saturday afternoon, it contacted the affected person, both from the Local Police and from the SIAD. The consistory reminds that to activate the protocol it is necessary to inform the police or go to Punto Lila.

The mayoress, Aurora Carbonell, has pointed out that this violence cannot have a place “neither in popular culture nor anywhere”.
