A dismembered child between two and three years old was found this Tuesday morning on a beach in Roda de Berà (Tarragona). The remains of the minor, decapitated and with the body in an advanced state of decomposition, have been located on the seashore, on the Costa Daurada beach.

The Mossos d’Esquadra and the emergency services received the notice around half past eight in the morning and went to the scene. Also agents of the Civil Guard and the Organic Unit of the Judicial Police of the Tarragona Command, who have opened an investigation to clarify the causes of death and identify the body.

The town hall of the town of Tarragonès has reported that the area has been surrounded and around half past eleven the forensic doctors have proceeded to remove the human remains. The beach has not had to be evacuated as it is not crowded at that time of the morning.

In a message issued on social networks, the consistory has asked the population not to go to the place. According to police sources, at the moment the causes of the victim’s death are unknown, as well as her identity. However, the assumption is that he could be a drowned migrant in the Mediterranean. This has been pointed out by the mayor of Roda de Berà, Pere Virgili, in the program El món a RAC1.

“It is a headless corpse, so it was difficult to know if it was a person. It has been in the sea for a long time. The hypothesis we have on the table is that it could be another corpse of the mare mortum that we have in front of our beaches”, explained Virgili, who confessed that it was doubted that it was a corpse due to its decomposition state: “At first instance it could look like a doll.”

The mayor added that the child was wearing “a bodysuit and a kind of jacket.” “It’s not the typical outfit for a kid going to the beach.”
