“Something never seen before”, warn Moncloa. At least in Spain, because these destabilizing practices, which warn that they can undermine the foundations of democratic institutions themselves, have already been deployed by Donald Trump in the United States or Jair Bolsonaro in Brazil. “The Trumpist conspiracy is already here”, they denounce the central government.
Pedro Sánchez himself turned around and declared himself even more outraged at the “lies, manipulations and wickedness” he attributed to Alberto Núñez Feijóo after the PP leader encouraged the idea of ??an electoral coup on July 23 – as Isabel Díaz Ayuso already did in the campaign for the May 28 elections – when she demanded that the postmen distribute all the votes by mail within the deadline, apart from what the bosses could order them to do.
The right spreads the idea that the Government intends to alter the result of the elections, with the manipulation of the vote by mail, because the president of Correos, Juan Manuel Serrano, was the chief of staff of Pedro Sánchez in the PSOE until he himself appointed for the position when he arrived at Moncloa in 2018.
“I consider myself a politician with principles and strong convictions”, Sánchez defended himself on Wednesday, after participating in the NATO summit in Vilnius. And, at the same time, he denounced the attitude that he attributed to Feijóo already in the electoral debate that both of them took part in on Monday, with an opposition strategy based on “lies, manipulation and wickedness”. As he already did face to face, Sánchez warned that he “must be outraged” at the strategy he attributes to the electoral rival.
“I rebel when I hear that they are telling a string of lies, as they said in the debate”, he emphasized. “I rebel when I hear a sexist party like Vox being whitewashed, and the pacts that the PP is signing with Santiago Abascal’s party in many town halls and autonomous communities,” he added. “And I rebel, too, against a blatant use of the terrorism that we defeated in 2011, and that breaks the most sacred thing in our country, which is the unity around the victims”, he warned Sanchez The President of the Government did not get an answer when, face to face, he asked the head of the opposition to disassociate himself from the slogan “Que et voti Txapote” that is wielded by the far right and that also raises PP leaders .
The mayor of Jaén, Agustín González Romo, of the PP, assured on Wednesday, in turn, that Sánchez “remains equidistant between the bullets and the necks”. And the PSOE unsuccessfully demanded his immediate resignation.
Sánchez expressed his indignation at the bulk of the PP’s accusations to muddy and polarize the electoral campaign. “I rebel against the situation of lies, of the failure of unity around the victims of terrorism, and against the attempt to whitewash pacts that go back 40 years in everything that has to do with the women’s rights”, he insisted.
“And I continue to do it”, assured Sánchez, to confirm that he will not change the electoral strategy despite the fact that the only debate with Feijóo frustrated the expectations of the Socialists. “I don’t know if it has electoral performance or not,” he admitted. “But the public service I have to do, as president of the Government and secretary general of the PSOE, is to denounce this kind of attitude when exercising politics and criticizing the pacts that make us go backwards”, he reiterated Sanchez
The president warned that, unlike what happened in all the previous electoral processes, with regard to the appointment with the polls on 23-J “we are not just playing with the alternation” politics. “We are gambling if Spain continues to advance or if we enter a tunnel of time that we do not know exactly where it can take us”, he warned.
