The history of the Muro de Lapuebla de Labarca family has been closely linked to viticulture since ancient times. Since 1892, they were one of the first viticulturists to market part of their harvest, bottled, and they have maintained their tradition and passion for wine to the present day.

Currently, the winery is owned by the Muro family and its current generation has completely renovated the production structures of its old vineyard and has briskly restarted bottling activity, being a pioneer in using stainless steel tanks in Lapuebla de Labarca. Since 2020, the winery has been renamed Bodegas Muro (until then it was called Bodegas Miguel Ángel Muro).

The vineyard, owned by the winery, is located in the Lapuebla de Labarca and Laguardia districts and is made up of 80% Tempranillo, 5% Graciano, 5% Maturana, 9% Viura and 1% Garnacha, with an average aged 35 years.

The vineyards, located in the Rioja Alavesa) are oriented to the south, at an altitude that oscillates between 450 and 570 meters, and receive little rainfall throughout the year, around 380 liters. All these characteristics give their grapes a great personality, a fundamental basis for the production of their exceptional quality wines.

The harvest begins at the beginning of September manually, emphasizing the quality of the grapes. The selection of the wines begins in the vineyards to later ferment in carbonic maceration and destemming in a temperature range of 25ºC to 30ºC. They will then undergo malolactic fermentation in oak barrels or in steel tanks, depending on the type of wine.

The aging takes place in 225-litre French and American barrels and the very special wines in 500-litre French wooden barrels.

Bodegas Muro produces from young wines in the purest style of their ancestors to crianzas, reservas, high expression and monovarietals with selected vintages, mixing the most modern techniques with the traditional knowledge of aging in French and American oak barrels.

Muro Crianza 2018, one of its great bets

The range of wines offered by the winery is wide and varied. The Muro Crianza 2018 is a good example of this. It is a silky, fruity wine, ready for your palate.

Red in appearance with small purple rims, the nose shows high intensity evolving from roasted and balsamic notes to a large number of notes of red fruit to later appear aromas of hay, anise and spices.

On the palate it is silky and well structured, with a great balance between wood and fruit. A wide range of fruits, balsamic, tobacco, toasted wood appear.

Ideal to pair with Iberico ham, cheeses, red meats or roasted meats. In short, an elegant and complex wine that will delight the most demanding palates.

This wine is one of those that is part of the Gourmet La Vanguardia Red Triangle Selection together with Finca Río Negro 2016 and Finca Sobreño Crianza 2019.
