No flags, no PP anthem, no banners. With only a great photo of Miguel Ángel Blanco, Alberto Núñez Feijóo made a stop in Ermua, within his electoral journey throughout Spain to pay tribute to the PP councilor who was assassinated by ETA 26 years ago.
It was not an electoral act. The PP president did not even talk about Sánchez, not even about his pacts with Bildu, to which he alludes every day at his rallies. It was quite simply an act of homage to Miguel Ángel Blando, a vindication of the memory of the victims and a call to recover the spirit of Ermua.
Even in his most political part, the president of the PP was very restrained in his words. All the furthest away from what the cry “That I vote for you Txapote” implies, whom Feijóo did not even mention, only ETA. The sister of Miguel Ángel Blanco, Marimar, and the president of the Basque PP, Carlos Iturgaiz, already took charge of doing it for him.
His most political part was to explain the measures of his program to pay tribute to the victims: Use all means to continue investigating “the 379 murders that are unsolved”; modify the crime of homage and exaltation of terrorism to prevent “acts of humiliation” to the victims”. that people convicted of terrorism can go on the lists”, as happened in the municipal ones, and as Carlos Iturgaiz denounced that it is now happening on one of the Bildu lists. Feijóo promised, at least, to submit this bill to the Council of State.
Everything else was a tribute Miguel Ángel Blanco: “We have not forgotten. We neither want to, nor can we nor will we forget”, as 26 years ago a young PP councilor “used the word”, and his murderers expressed themselves as “killing him”. . A victim of the terrorist group ETA “who does not deserve to be forgotten”, and if he was defeated it was only “thanks to the strength of the Spanish nation, the law, the State Security Forces and Corps and the victims of ETA”.
The president of the PP considers that it must not be forgotten that the terrorists “used an ideological alibi” “that prompted them to kill”, and for this reason he considers that neither in the present nor in the future Spain can be conditioned “by those who executed, applauded or cheered “the murders of ETA” and neither by those who “do not condemn these murders and give shelter to the murderers”.
Marimar Blanco was tougher, and made specific references. “I am against the oblivion and impunity operation that some attempt,” she said in an act before some 200 people. She recalled that while all of Spain mourned the murder of her brother, “Otegi, that man of peace, spent a wonderful day at the beach celebrating the murder.” That is why they do not understand that Otegi’s party “is a decisive party and is allowed to rewrite the history of the transition”, and not only has “a moral regeneration” been demanded of them, but that “they have been allowed to bring the prisoners to Euskadi”.
With this, he said, “my brother’s murderers are at home, and my brother is in Ourense, where he had to move his grave because they didn’t even leave him alone when dead, in the cemetery. “They will be legal parties, but they are deeply immoral.” , said Marimar Blanco, and for this reason he considers that it is necessary “that memory, dignity and justice be defended, and not detained by five votes”, because with these attitudes, the message and the perception that ” terrorism was not that bad”.
