The twelve radars that were installed in September of last year and that fined since January in school environments that correspond to sections of streets of the basic network limited to 30 km/h, will make their schedules more flexible so that they will only penalize vehicles that exceed that value of Monday Saturday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and they will do so from 50 km/h at night, on Sundays and in the month of August. In this way, the new municipal government meets the proposals of residents and also of the RACC, who demanded that these devices be adapted to the activity of these educational centers, both school and extracurricular.
The measure, which will begin to be applied on August 1, also affects other sections around schools or institutes that do not have speed cameras but are limited to 30 km/h despite the fact that they are streets where you can generically reach 50 km/h. h. The restriction will be applied at the same times as those that are controlled by cinemometers. In these cases, the signage will be changed.
“As a result of conversations with the neighbors, we have seen that we could make things more flexible”, argued this Thursday the first deputy mayor, Laia Bonet, who since when these radars were installed and when they began to sanction, defended the advisability of applying the restriction to 30 km /h 24 hours a day, because it was about changing the habits of drivers and also there were no precedents in other cities for them to operate by schedule. “We have innovated by putting them in school settings – she added. We can also innovate by being flexible”. In fact, the previous government of BComú and PSC was already evaluating the possibility of differentiating schedules.
Bonet has also announced that another 28 radars are going to be installed inside the city that will not fine, they will only indicate the speed at which you are going and if the permitted limit has been exceeded. All will be limited to 50 km/h except three, at 30 km/h. “They will be informative, educational, with a screen,” explained the mayor. We hope to achieve what is already happening with the others in which there has been a very important change in habits”.
