Summer is synonymous with the beach. Long days under the sun, relaxing on the sand, cooling off in the sea, playing paddle tennis or practicing other water sports, having a drink at a beach bar with good views… Faced with such an appetizing plan, it is not surprising that we want our pets to join us on vacation.

However, finding a dog-friendly beach is not that easy. In many, the access of our best four-legged friends is prohibited throughout the year, while others restrict it in the summer season. However, along the Spanish coast we find some beaches where dogs are welcome in limited areas.

When visiting them, review the specific regulations, since in some the dog must be on a leash, while in others it can be loose – except for those classified as potentially dangerous by law. You must bring your vaccination card, as well as water and food, toys and sun protection, so that you can enjoy yourself to the fullest. That said, all that remains is to review the best beaches that allow dogs in Spain.

This beach is located in the town of Soto de la Marina, in the municipality of Santa Cruz de Bezana. It is a small cove 125 meters long, near the beach of San Juan de la Canal. Although the dog can run loose, of course you should keep an eye on it, pick up its droppings and make sure it doesn’t bother other beach users. It is worth mentioning the wonderful natural enclave of rocks, cliffs and green areas that surround the cove, ideal for walking with your furry friend.

This was the first beach in Spain to officially admit dogs, so it cannot be missing from the list. It is located in Castelló D’Empúries, in Empuriabrava. It forms part of the Aiguamolls del Empordà Natural Park, another compelling reason to visit it. In addition, it has fine sand, crystal clear waters and has a 200-meter-long enclosed area where you can unleash your dog and let it run wild.

In the municipality of O Grove, in San Vicente do Grove, is this beach located next to the Pedras Negras Marina. Its sand is white and fine, with crystalline waters and a sensational landscape. In it, your four-legged best friend can go loose and run along the 75-meter long beach. Thanks to its calm waves, it is perfect for doggy dips.

Five minutes by car or half an hour on foot from the center of Marbella we find this 1.5 kilometer long beach where dogs are accepted in a designated area of ??250 linear meters. Its sand is fine with some stones. In it there are fountains for dogs and special showers available to remove the sand before you leave.
