During the first weeks of this summer, several car manufacturers have announced the arrival of their new ranges of bicycles. This is a sector that is gaining more and more followers, something that, of course, is never overlooked by brands dedicated mainly to four-wheeled vehicles.
Lamborghini, Porsche and BMW are some of the automobile companies that have recently unveiled their innovations in the cycling field. Now it’s Peugeot’s turn. It must be borne in mind that the French brand has a long history in the field of bicycles, since it has been manufacturing this type of vehicle for nearly 140 years.
For this reason, there is no doubt that it seeks to aim for high levels in this sector. To do this, it has announced the arrival of a completely new range of electrically assisted bikes. This line of two-wheel alternatives has a double aspect. And it is that, on the one hand, it seeks to attract the private user but also the cyclist who uses these vehicles in the professional field.
The brand primarily targets three sub-segments of this booming industry, namely conventional city bikes, so-called long-tail cargo bikes, and extended-wheelbase cargo bikes.
The urban bicycle designed for the purely private sphere has been baptized under the name of Digital e-Bike, and is aimed mainly at families who live in cities where there is an extensive infrastructure of bicycle lanes and dedicated parking areas (or are designed for its next creation and development).
With regard to cargo bikes, called Digital e-Longtail and Digital e-Front Load, these are alternatives aimed at people who work in sectors such as last-mile delivery or logistics companies, among others. The first of them will have an extended rear part where the storage area is located and that will allow a considerable weight to be transported (the figure has not yet been communicated).
For its part, the Digital e-Front Load integrates a large box in the front, designed for those who prefer to never lose sight of the cargo area while pedaling around the city. As can be seen, the three bicycles include the word “digital” in their name. According to the French firm, this is because they will all be associated with a dedicated smartphone application.
This app will provide cyclists with access to the electrical assistance system, anti-theft system, alarm, bike geolocation system, real-time navigation, weather forecast at the destination, route statistics, etc. At the moment, Peugeot has not made public the technical characteristics of these new models such as power or autonomy.
What is known is that they will hit the market between the end of this year and the beginning of 2024. To find out about some of the brand’s previous creations in the field of electric bikes, all you have to do is take a look at the video that accompanies this article.
