This past Friday, Valents presented a creditors’ meeting and initiated the end of a stage that began in January 2022, with the grand presentation at the Born Center for Culture and Memory (Barcelona).
The president of Valents, Eva Parera, candidate for mayor of Barcelona in the recent municipal elections, has declared that “it could seem like the end, but it is only a full stop on a long road that still has to be traveled if we want to return to normality political, institutional and social to Catalonia” and added “I firmly believe that the political space that Valents has represented, as well as our demands to give voice to the abandoned constitutionalist Catalans continue to be more necessary than ever. I encourage you to keep the space alive”.
The opening of the voluntary competition process as a result of the bad electoral results, does not alter the functioning of the activity of the councilors that Valents obtained in the municipal elections of May 28. They will be able to continue using the name of Valents until the end of their mandate, if they consider it so.
On May 28, Valents presented 71 lists, which represented more than 1,400 candidates and 1,500 proxies, obtaining 32,408 votes throughout Catalonia. Valents has been present in more than 150 municipalities through their local boards.
Parera wanted to thank each and every one of the members of the Local Boards, candidates, militants and supporters for the work carried out, the time dedicated and the desire and enthusiasm that have always guided them.
Parera has gone through five parties in less than two decades, since he began his political career in 2006. His first initials were Unió Democràtica de Catalunya, the late party led by Josep Antoni Duran i Lleida.
Subsequently, he moved to Units per Avançar -one of the heirs to UDC- and shortly after Barcelona joined Canvi. But with the departure of Manuel Valls, the project was orphaned and Eva Parera headed towards the Catalan PP as an independent, although a few months later she renounced her deputy act to found Valents, a project that she has now ended.
