In The Photos of the Readers of La Vanguardia we can see these photographs that show some of the moments of the mapping show of the Roman temple of Vic, Un espai, 2,000 anys d’història (A space, 2,000 years of history), organized by the Town Hall and which tells the story of this space with video mapping techniques.
This temple, whose construction dates back to the 2nd century, is an authentic heritage of the Roman occupation of the city of Vic. It is one of the best preserved in the Iberian Peninsula.
This architectural work belonged to the Roman city of Ausa, which was founded around the 1st century. However, the existence of the temple was ignored until 1882. This was due to the fact that it was located inside the old castle of Montcada and, when it was overthrown , they found this wonderful construction.
The mapping is part of the Vicpuntzero project, which “values ??the importance of this place, not only the site of the Roman temple, but the entire block known as the Illa de la Pietat, located at the highest point of the historic center, and that it has been one of the points from which the city was structured”.
In this area of ??the capital of Osona “the long history of Vic is revealed more than in any other”, with the Roman temple, from the 1st century, the oldest archaeological remains in the city, and, around it , the remains of the medieval castle from which part of the city was governed for centuries.
Attached to the castle was the Romanesque church of Sant Sadurní, of which we can see several remains and which over the centuries was enlarged and became the church of La Pietat, a large Baroque building built in the 17th century.
The mapping show can be seen until August 31, every day, at 10 p.m., in the Roman temple, in Plaça de la Pietat.
