The origin of the new heat wave is a large anticyclone at medium and high levels, located around Tunisia and the central Mediterranean, which will approach the Iberian Peninsula, according to a special notice issued by the agency. A rise in temperatures is expected in a large part of the Peninsula and in the Balearic Islands (except in the northwestern third), and that very high values ??are reached in areas of the center and in the southern interior of the peninsula, as well as in the depressions of the northeast and in the interior of Mallorca during the first half of the week.

Today the highest temperatures will be reached in the center and southern interior of the peninsula and the Guadiana valley, where temperatures will generally exceed 40ºC, as well as in the Guadalquivir valley, where 42ºC will be exceeded, without ruling out that locally the 44ºC. Tomorrow, Tuesday, there will be a rise in temperatures in the eastern third of the peninsula, the upper Ebro and the Balearic Islands, while they remain or fall slightly on the Atlantic slope. In the center and south of the peninsula, temperatures will exceed 40ºC in large areas, including 42ºC locally in the Guadalquivir valley.

The day will be especially warm in the northeastern quadrant and the Balearic Islands, and it is likely that temperatures will exceed 40ºC in large areas, without ruling out that it will reach 42ºC in the Ebro valley, northeastern depressions, northern Catalonia and inland Mallorca .

As of Wednesday, a drop in temperatures is expected from the northwest, although they will continue to be high in the interior south and southeast of the peninsula, the Balearic Islands and, with greater uncertainty, in the center of the peninsula. It is probable that they will continue above 40 degrees in large areas of the center of the peninsula and inland Mallorca, as well as in the southeastern third and the Guadalquivir valley, where they could exceed 42ºC locally.
