If the application of an idea does not work correctly, it is corrected as soon as possible to avoid greater harm. This principle of domestic common sense, followed by the majority of citizens, has difficulties in understanding in some governments. This happens because there are leaders with a high concept of themselves who believe they are infallible. They are never wrong and if something goes wrong it is the fault of the rest of humanity, which boycotts their ideological principles.
We have seen very recent examples of this in state politics, but we have also experienced it in domestic politics. In this sense, Barcelona has spearheaded projects that have not tolerated any criticism, even if it was well-founded. The new mayor of Barcelona, ??Jaume Collboni, who was part of the municipal government that made dogma an authentic faith, has begun to reverse some measures that clearly bordered on the absurd. For example, the speed cameras around schools that fined in the morning, at weekends and during school holidays. This measure will be corrected from August 1 and outside school hours, traffic will be able to travel at a maximum of 50 km/h. The new government has heeded the reasoning of experts and users themselves, who saw the measure as an effort to collect money.
I understand that those responsible for mobility are analyzing other measures that have had a debatable result. Among which, the terrible management of loading and unloading. Anyone who walks through the city will see the level of congestion, ergo pollution, which causes the mismanagement of this affair. Even the Urban Guard has thrown in the towel and there is an absolute permissiveness with the double and third row motivated to a large extent by the delirious elimination of numerous chamfers that facilitated loading and unloading without affecting the fluidity of cars, buses and taxis. Indiscipline is so widespread that you don’t have to be Sherlock Holmes to find it. The plans presented in recent years sleep in a drawer and this explains the law of the jungle that prevails in the streets.
There are other initiatives promoted in recent years that have failed in their objective. One of the latter is the obligation to transfer 30% of new housing developments to social flats. Since the measure was taken without taking into account those who build or rehabilitate homes, the idea has had the opposite effect to what was sought and construction has plummeted by 79% in Barcelona. Added to this real estate slowdown in the Catalan capital is the alarming forecast of the withdrawal of tens of thousands of flats from the rental market due to the new Housing Law. These two bad news form a perfect storm that will further aggravate the difficulty of living in Barcelona. The rulers would do well to analyze the situation and correct the problem before the problem becomes even more dramatic. As you can see, there is still much to do.
