The signing of Oriol Romeu by Barça is imminent. The 31-year-old veteran midfielder has no longer trained with Girona this Monday and has traveled to the Catalan capital to undergo the pertinent medical examination with the Blaugrana club at the Barcelona Hospital, as La Vanguardia has been able to confirm. .
Romeu’s arrival in Barcelona coincides with the presentation of Ilkay Gündogan at the Blaugrana facilities. The German was the first signing announced by the Barcelona entity, then Iñigo Martínez arrived and in the next few hours the contracting of the Catalan could be announced after Barça paid Girona an amount close to 5 million euros and probably with the transfer of Pablo Tower.
The Ulldecona player was formed in the lower categories of Barça, but given the lack of opportunities in the first team, due to the presence, among others, of a giant in his position like Sergio Busquets, he packed his bags for Chelsea. Curiously, Romeu arrives to replace the one from Badía, who this past dawn was presented with Inter Miami along with Messi.
Accustomed to the game of possession and position of the Blaugrana school, Romeu’s style did not quite take hold in his early years with the blues and after two assignments, first to Valencia and then to the German Stuttgart, he made his fortune at Southampton, where he was a important pillar for seven seasons.
Last season Romeu returned to the Spanish League at the hands of Girona, who paid 5.5 million to the saints. Under the orders of Míchel Sánchez, the Catalan became a fundamental player for the people from Girona, in the bulwark of midfield. The midfielder has played as many minutes as possible for Girona except for the first round of the Copa del Rey, against Atlético in Montilivi, when he was substituted in the 75th minute, and against Real Sociedad in Anoeta, sent off in the 87th minute.
