Last Saturday, April 29, Catalonia lived one of the most infamous days in the world of oppositions in its entire history: widespread delays, organizational problems and the suspension of one of the tests were the result of outsourcing these complicated exams to a private company.
Almost 14,000 people were affected and suffered various irregularities, as the Generalitat would end up accepting: “We cannot tolerate the situation,” the Government declared in the face of the problems that the tests had generated after years of relative normality in the exams.
However, a few days ago these same oppositions were repeated and again thousands of people presented themselves, now without incident, for massive exams with the aim of becoming civil servants: Why are so many people wanting to be a public worker in Spain? ?
Some 8,000 people participated in the latest oppositions in Catalonia and the number is even greater when compared to the available places. Those who participated in these exams only opted for 1,344 vacancies, so the competition to access them has been really tough.
For her part, the Minister of the Presidency of the Generalitat, Laura Vilagrà, explained that the administration had never before carried out exams with “so many applicants in such a short time” and gave a date for the next oppositions: they will be at the end of 2023 and will seek “capital human with new profiles”.
The truth is that no matter how tough they are, the oppositions will continue to be very popular because being a civil servant is a path that still in 2023 continues to offer a stability that is very difficult to find in private companies and that for many it is worth dedicating years and years of effort to finish accessing.
It is no secret that Spain is a country with a large number of civil servants: out of a population of some 47 million people, more than 2.7 million are public officials, in addition to maintaining an upward trend that despite having some coming and going coming can be sustained over time to accommodate teachers, police officers, firefighters and all kinds of public workers.
The opportunity that is presented again at the end of the year to access a public position through competitive examinations highlights the need for adequate training to prepare them. Courses, learning and preparation always help to put yourself in a good position against the thousands of competitors to be a civil servant.
