Who doesn’t feel like taking a shower under cold water in this heat? Possibly, a shower in the middle of summer is one of the simplest and at the same time most pleasant activities that we can enjoy. The shower is necessary if we want to have proper personal hygiene. However, we also have to take into account certain aspects when we carry out this act of personal cleansing in order to preserve water as an essential resource for the planet while taking care of our skin. Taking this context into account, do you know what the perfect shower looks like according to dermatologists?

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the perfect shower should last “between 3 and 5 minutes” to avoid wasting water. In addition, the WHO reminds us that “one minute in the shower supposes, approximately, an expense of 25 liters of water”. In this way, if we take short showers, we will not only help sustainability and protect this water resource, but we will also have healthier skin. This is how Ingrid Hiltun, a dermatologist at the University Hospital of Navarra, explains it: “The ideal shower should be daily (especially in hot regions) and short. Approximately 5 or 10 minutes. It is advisable to use soaps or soapy oils that respect the lipid layer and to dry the skin by touching it, without rubbing”.
