The presenter of La Noche en 24 Horas, Xabier Fortes, has defended RTVE after the attacks by some leaders of the Popular Party. The last one was the popular MEP, Esteban González Pons, who in a tweet accused the public channel of behaving like a party.
“I think that RTVE is going to lose the elections. And I hope that the next day the leaders of that party resign, as is done in all parties when they lose the elections to which they are presented. Better not go. I neither see it nor go .” This was the tweet published by González Pons after the controversy over the scuffle between Alberto Núñez Feijóo and the journalist Silvia Intxaurrondo on Monday.
Xabier Fortes wanted to replicate the words of the PP MEP. “If you don’t see us, you lose it”, this is how the presenter addressed González Pons. On the one hand, he defended RTVE from his attacks: “We are not a political party. We are a public television, of professionals ”, and he also defended his partner:“ she has done what a journalist has to do ”.
The Madrid Press Association (APM) has also wanted to speak out through a statement. As stated, the APM “categorically rejects the statements by political leaders in which they disqualify the work of journalists and the media when they, in the exercise of freedom of expression, issue opinions or information critical of the actions of the political parties.”
In an interview on the program La hora de La 1, Intxaurrondo corrected Feijoó live after the popular candidate assured that his party had always revalued pensions according to the CPI. The journalist did not hesitate to tell the PP leader that her statement was not correct, to which Feijoó told her to “review his data.” The journalist, for her part, replied again that his data “were correct.”
Silvia Intxaurrondo assured that in the years 2012, 2013 and 2017 the Popular Party did not revalue pensions according to the CPI. After denying the journalist’s data live, Feijoó acknowledged hours later the “inaccuracy” in her data and said through a tweet that the PP raised pensions every year, but without saying that it did so at the CPI level . In addition, she pointed out that the PSOE “froze them with the vote of Sánchez.”
