I was able to photograph for Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia giant waves with much wind on Gavà beach, on the coast of the Baix Llobregat region.

The very violent storm of rough seas will unfortunately surely bring the usual consequences with the regression of the coastline losing sand on the beaches.

Now, the real “giant waves”, which are also known as “rogue waves” or “monster waves” are legendary, as they even constitute a serious threat to large ships and ocean liners.

And these are spontaneous waves that, unlike this case in Gavà, are not explained by the state of the sea or by earthquakes or other phenomena.

Accounts from sailors and the damage inflicted on ships suggested the existence of these gigantic waves, but this was only hearsay until their scientific measurement was carried out on the Draupner oil platform in the North Sea on January 1, 1995.
