Photographer Jordi Plana pokes fun at the herds of today’s society. This image, which we see in Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia, can be seen in the Ethnographic Museum of Ripoll, which hosts an exhibition of sheep herd brands by the Alpine blacksmith Enric Pla Montferrer.

The exhibition is “a look at a heritage and an identity of our territory such as the brands of the flocks of sheep”, as indicated in the presentation of the Marques de Ramats exhibition.

These brands are “original, creative and of exquisite simplicity and elegance”. Shepherds and blacksmiths created them, some of them more than 1,000 years ago, to “be able to recognize their sheep when they went up the mountain, where during the summer thousands of sheep from different shepherds would gather.”

But, these exhibitions also represent “a critical look at our society that loves us all as a herd, manipulating the media, taking away our social rights and marking ideas, aesthetics and consumption habits that are not good for us. us nor for our planet”.

This exhibition can be visited from July 14 to September 11 at the Ripoll Ethnographic Museum.
