The Vall Companys family agri-food group from Lleida closed 2022 with a record turnover of 3,010 million euros, 31% more than the previous year. The company, with businesses in the pork, beef, poultry, flour and meat industries, attributes its all-time record to inflation and acquisitions made last year. 65% of its sales correspond to national income and 35% to international business.

The increase in the energy costs of raw materials and feed accentuated by the invasion of Ukraine has reduced the company’s margin to 3.6% compared to 4.1% in 2021. The net result of the group, made up of more than 45 companies in Spain, was 110 million in 2022.

In the billing figures, the group includes the acquisition of Grupo SADA, formalized in November 2022 and does not take into account the purchase of Embutidos Rodríguez, finally closed on January 12, 2023.

The leading pig producer in Europe (with 260,000 breeders) and the leading chicken producer in Spain (with a 25% share after the acquisition of the SADA group), with divisions of beef and processed industries, ensures that its poultry division has experienced a stable volume of business in the last year within the national framework while the pork sector continues with its export vocation. China, Korea, Japan and Central Europe are its main international markets for pork.

In 2022, the company dedicated 81.5 million to investments in machinery and expansion and renovation of its production facilities, 15 million to promoting energy self-consumption, promoting renewables through photovoltaic solar energy. Throughout the year, it reached an installed solar power of 16,730 kilowatts, closing the year with a saving of 531 tons of CO?. This year it expects to reach an installed solar capacity of 33,600, while not emitting 5,600 tons of CO?.

The implementation of self-consumption of solar energy is in line with the company’s strategic sustainability plan, the Penta Program, which aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 42% by 2030.

Grupo Vall Companys, founded in 1956, is associated with more than 2,100 farmers. Its model is based on the integration of all phases of the production process. On most farms, he owns the animals, feed and medicines. The ranchers provide the facilities and labor.
