Since last May 28, Sergio Rico has been admitted to the Virgen del Rocío Hospital in Seville. The Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper was urgently hospitalized after being hit on the head by a horse in the Huelva town of El Rocío. Since then, the Spanish goalkeeper has taken baby steps on the way to a full recovery. On July 5th he was transferred to the plant, and since then there has been nothing but improvement.
Rocío Romero, correspondent for the program Ya es mediodía Fresh on Telecinco, has reported the last hour of the soccer player, advancing positive news. Sergio Rico is in perfect condition, improving with each passing day. He has even come to comment that his weight is also returning to normal figures. The only exception will be the final discharge date, which will have to be delayed due to the large number of tests being carried out.
Romero clarified that in his last connection he had managed to give an estimated discharge date, scheduled for this weekend. However, the doctors at Hospital Virgen del Rocío want to be completely sure and continue to evaluate him before the PSG player can return home. The reporter also pointed out that, for the moment, Rico will remain in Seville: they have made a move together with Alba Silva and will continue his recovery in the Andalusian capital.
This implies that the goalkeeper will not yet return to the discipline of his club, Paris Saint-Germain, which is currently in full preseason to prepare for the 2023/24 campaign. That has not prevented his teammates from contacting him and sending him the odd message of support. The Brazilian Neymar, forward of the Parisian team but who would be looking for a way out, was one of them: “We miss you friend. Strength and come back soon because I want to score goals for you”.
Beyond the good news, the accident investigation continues to raise questions. It all happened during the El Rocío Pilgrimage festivities: while he was attending the Pontifical mass, a garbage truck scared a horse, which violently hit the athlete. The police report surprised locals and strangers by revealing that there were no direct witnesses to the incident, but the decision to dismiss the case ended up closing any mystery.
Several people who were near the place assured that the truck scared another foal, which was tied to a cart with other animals. The group broke free and fled in terror towards the place where the goalkeeper was, where they initially scared the horse that hit him. However, it cannot be confirmed that the goalkeeper was mounted on the animal. Nobody saw Sergio Rico mounted on the horse, only lying on the ground after the blow.
