In Spain there are more than nine million registered dogs, according to data collected by the National Association of Pet Food Manufacturers. These pets are one of the family, so, in the vast majority of cases, when summer comes they also travel with their owners to the vacation destination. Often, the trips are made by car, a means of transport that not all animals like equally.
Some of them live these journeys with stress. In order to help calm them down, and coinciding with the celebration of World Dog Day (July 21), Audi has created a playlist with four specific songs to reassure these pets when traveling on the road.
Titled Tracks from Barks, it is available on the Audi channel on Spotify and includes songs created especially for dogs in collaboration with a Barcelona music studio.
The music uses the rhythm and scales of different barks as a base, and has frequencies and tempos that help lower pets’ cortisol levels, increasing their ability to stay relaxed.
In this way, it is possible to improve both the driver’s experience and the pleasure of traveling for the other occupants of the vehicle. And it is that a bad trip of the pet will also make his companions uncomfortable.
During the journey you have to attend to the needs of the dog, which obviously must be restrained in the most appropriate way for its size (carrier, harness or in the trunk -if the cargo area is open to the passenger compartment-).
In summer you have to be especially careful with your hydration and never leave it locked in the vehicle. On long journeys, it is convenient to make stops so that you can get out of the vehicle to relieve yourself and be able to walk a bit. In the case of dogs with a tendency to become dizzy, the RACE recommends visiting a veterinarian to prescribe a specific tranquilizer or medication.
