A surprising tornado has affected the city of Milan, in Italy this Friday morning. This extreme weather event has caused problems such as flooding, overflows, and downed trees.
The phenomenon has occurred without prior notice and has dragged street furniture in its path, generating fear in part of the population. The whirlwind has mainly affected the towns of Cernusco sul Naviglio and Gessate.
The firefighters of the Lombard city have had to carry out some 110 interventions as a result of bad weather. At the moment, no injuries have been reported from the tornado, although the authorities are still evaluating the situation.
Quickly, the images of the tornado in Milan in the middle of July have gone viral on social media. This meteorological phenomenon, unusual in the area, has occurred while the northern hemisphere registers unprecedented extreme temperatures for a week.
This whirlwind has not been the only violent weather phenomenon that the Milan area has suffered in recent hours. In the Saronnese area, a heavy downpour of hail has precipitated pieces of ice the size of golf balls, causing damage to street furniture and vehicles.
In addition, the heavy rainfall accompanied by wind has also caused flooding in the city’s subway, as well as the blocking of several roads due to falling trees on the road.
Let us remember that barely two months ago Italy was already affected by a serious episode of torrential rains that caused significant flooding, causing at least 14 deaths and more than 20,000 evacuees from the Emilia-Romagna region.
