With more than 12 million subscribers to her Virtual Gym YouTube channel, 1.4 million Instagram followers and 1,500 full-body workout videos, Patry Jordan has become a national and international ambassador for the sport. His proposals for exercising at home and hardly needing to use any type of specific material have helped a lot of people who want to do sports, but in the comfort and privacy of their home and without the pressure of meeting a specific schedule in a gym. Recently, this online trainer, also an expert in beauty and nutrition, collected the Diamond Button on YouTube, being the first woman and the only one in her category to obtain it to this day.
A few weeks ago, in the incomparable setting of the W Barcelona hotel, facing the sea, he presented his advice so that in summer we do not throw away all the effort made throughout the year. For Jordan, the summer season offers just the opposite of what many of us think: more time to do activities that we don’t have time to practice in our daily lives and, furthermore, outdoors and in a more playful way.
“We have to change our mentality. It seems that when the good weather arrives, the goal is not to exercise at all, when we can do activities that are beneficial for our muscles and the most fun, such as walking along the Costa Brava, an easy via ferrata, yoga in the middle of the mountain… The key is to get rid of that idea of ??suffering and replace it with trying new things. Some people have become hooked on my Virtual Gym after realizing that in summer you can enjoy exercising without suffering. My advice is to try new things and, instead of excuses, look for opportunities”, he tells Lifestyle Magazine exclusively.
The key is to adapt. If it’s hot we can play sports first or last minute, or look for where we can shelter from the sun. You can also lower the intensity if the temperatures are too high for what you had planned or adapt it to the weather conditions of the day. And if you want privacy, you don’t have to go to the hotel gym. You can also exercise in your room.
“If you are exercising all year and then completely disconnect for a month, when you want to start again it will cost you three times as much and you can get very frustrated. On the other hand, if you have searched for those small connections with sport, it will be much easier for you to re-engage”, explains this Girona by birth who debuted in 2010 with her YouTube channel with makeup and hairdressing tricks that she would later compile, already in 2015, in her first book, entitled My beauty ideas to shine every day.
However, the passion for sport has always beat in his heart. His father was a soccer coach, his mother had a gym and his brother works as an analyst at F.C. Barcelona. She herself had played forward on a soccer team and divided her time between her work at a professional gym and a communication agency. So she decided to drop everything and open her own fitness channel, successful from day one.
To help those who want to continue with the sport, but without missing out on all the plans that the holidays have in store, Jordan has created a special program for the summer with more express routines and which is accompanied by tips so as not to lose motivation and continue to maintain a healthy diet. His healthy recipes, compiled in The veggie challenge, are also a good read at this time so as not to put on extra pounds while still enjoying the best on the table.
“It has been shown that in three weeks you can develop healthy habits. It is a matter of patience and effort and, above all, of attitude and discipline. It is not about transforming your body, but about becoming the best version of yourself, without ever losing sight of personal and emotional self-care”, remarks Jordan, who was once a finalist on the television contest ‘Dancing with the Stars’. “It’s like when you sign up to learn English. The first day you will not be able to carry out a complete conversation, but you can learn, for example, verbs. It is about the same thing, to generate a small commitment, which will later give you more motivation, satisfaction and self-esteem ”, she adds.
Falling into a sedentary lifestyle is largely due to the fact that we set ourselves very high goals and demand immediate rewards, which is physically impossible. That is why it is extremely important to go little by little. Seeing ourselves progress every day will make it easier for us not to give up and be more constant. In the end it is nothing more than a competition with oneself. If you always try to improve, you are on the right track.
It is also essential that you listen to yourself and be honest at all times. The reason? We are always going to find excuses and justifications for not leading a healthier lifestyle. It may be that your children are waiting for you, that your partner is not motivated when you are, that you tell yourself that you do have to finish this report today when it really is not that urgent… “The main thing is to commit to what you see as feasible and if one day we fail, nothing happens. I always recommend that you have a ninety-day vision. If you do not fulfill what you had planned on one occasion, you write it down, but the next day you return to the charge. You are not perfect, but if at the end of ninety days you have only failed three times, you will surely achieve your goal”, clarifies this fitness enthusiast who combines dance gestures with squats, sprints and exercises to strengthen the arms in her tutorials.
Also author of the book Yo puedo con todo, Jordan wants to make it clear that this mantra must be lived exclusively with oneself. “If you feel like you can, you will find a way to follow a healthy lifestyle. You have to do those things that you need and that give you stability and well-being, both physical and mental. You don’t put the important thing on hold, do you? I mean, would you leave your child waiting at school? We are always an “after” with ourselves. We women carry a backpack full of things that we hide in our daily lives and we suffer a lot.
“I can handle everything” is not synonymous with being a hero. You don’t have to be able to with everything, you have to want power. That is the key to self-care”, emphasizes Jordan, who, restless by nature, is finishing her coaching studies. “The goal that we have to envision is to direct our lives towards where we want, otherwise we will be trailing behind others. Social networks are nothing more than a mirage. We are the photos that we do not publish and especially we are much more than a beauty standard that only serves to annihilate our progress and self-esteem ”, she concludes.
