The PP of Catalonia has closed the night with a notable growth compared to 2019, but below the expectations that they placed during the campaign on this 23-J. The popular Catalans have obtained 6 seats, four more than in the last elections, thus leaving the representative ostracism in which they have been in recent years in Catalonia but they are not close to their best records
The candidacy headed by Nacho Martín Blanco, former leader of Ciudadanos, sought to achieve at least eight seats throughout Catalonia, and thus push Alberto Núñez Feijóo to Moncloa with increased support in a territory that is always difficult for the PP. The popular ones achieve 5 deputies in Barcelona, ??tying as second force with Sumar. In Tarragona they achieve a representative, when they did not obtain a seat in 2019, and they are left with zero in Lleida and Girona. In any case, and when the polls gave a wide victory, they pointed to the possibility of having representation in all the provinces. They are unable to curtail the broad victory of the Catalan socialists in this way.
The popular Catalans, in a complex restructuring process after the years of the process, and the concurrence of two new forces on the right -Vox, and the disappeared Ciudadanos- link a good part of their future to the project of Alberto Núñez Feijóo. The PP candidate has displayed a moderate discourse in the campaign in Catalonia, but the shadow of Vox has weighed heavily. And obviously with a view to the near future, whether or not the PP is in Moncloa has nothing to do with the definition of the popular Catalan project.
Martín Blanco has followed the election night together with Manu Reyes, mayor of Catelldefels, the Barcelona councilor Daniel Sirera and the campaign manager Josep Tutusaus. Later the president of the formation Alejandro Fernández arrived. The post-electoral process and the Catalan scenario thus open a period of debate.
