First meeting of the Mazón government, first measure. Inheritance and donation taxes are over in the Valencian Community. It was one of the pillars on which the PPCV campaign revolved and it has been executed quickly. The collection figures and number of citizens affected by these taxes dismantle their raison d’être. In the first quarter of 2023, the number of Valencians who had to give up an inheritance for not being able to pay their taxes grew by 24%, 20,000 in total during the last legislature. If someone tries to continue defending that it is a tax to tax the rich, they should urgently look for another argument to defend that statement. Being rich is something else. Being rich is more than receiving an inheritance, or having a second home. Perhaps this is also why today Mazón is the tenant of the Palau.
Then comes the collection. The expected estimate of income left by the Puig government for inheritance tax was around 390 million, translated, 1% of the total budget of the Generalitat. At this point a reminder. In 2022 the tripartite government of the Community collected 2,000 million more due to inflation and the rise in prices. After this data, the much-vaunted tax cut that Puig announced before the start of the electoral campaign barely reaches 150 million in savings for Valencians.
As a general range, we should remember that a government is not better for applying more taxes, nor is it fairer or more equitable. The best government is the one that is capable of offering the same public services while asking the citizen for the least possible effort in tax matters. Collecting by system is easy. Managing and optimizing is more complex and difficult but more responsible, although before checking the results they are already waiting for you with the accusation of favoring the rich, which according to the left and from what has been heard since the measure was announced, almost all of us should be. Yourselves.
