Joan Mir will possibly be one of the names to remember in motorcycling this decade. The current Honda rider in MotoGP entered the 2020 World Championship without too many options on the table, something that changed radically after the pandemic and the famous injury to Marc Márquez.

Since then, he has maintained a perfect consistency that led him to win the championship trophy with a single victory, in one of the most iconic moments of his life. A moment to which, now, he can add another equally or more important.

The Mallorcan and his wife, the gymnast Alejandra López, have officially announced the birth of their first child through their social networks. The broker posted a photo of both of them next to the newborn on his Instagram profile, revealing that the baby will be named after him: Joan. The little one was born this past weekend, two years after the couple got married in Andorra and one after they celebrated a romantic wedding in Mallorca.

“Welcome John. Mommy and baby are great, happy to finally have you with us,” Mir wrote next to the published image. The capture shared on Instagram already exceeds 40,000 likes, and has been filled with positive comments congratulating the tandem. The bulk of the MotoGP grid was not missing from the celebration, including Joan Sr.’s teammate, Marc Márquez. “Congratulations couple”, wrote the one from Cervera in Catalan.

“Congratulations Joan and Alejandra, and welcome to the MotoGP family, little Joan”, shared the official account of the championship. Other fellow motorcyclists from Honda have also joined in the congratulations. From the Superbike riders Iker Lecuona and Toprak Razgatl?o?lu, to sports legends like Max Biaggi, through competition brands and sponsors of the Mallorcan. A sample of the camaraderie that exists off the track.

In the same way, the congratulations of Marc Márquez and his team will not help to stabilize the rarefied atmosphere that exists in HRC. The “Tro de Cervera” and the 2020 world champion have only accumulated one finished race between the two so far this season. It was an eleventh place for Mir in Portugal, who to top it off was injured in the Italian Grand Prix and has not raced since. Something that does not help with equally bad performance and injuries from Márquez.

In fact, for several weeks there have been rumors that the Spaniard could break his contract with Honda. Different sources point out that the return of number 36 to the tracks would be delayed due to his distrust of the motorcycle, something that Yamaha could take advantage of. The blue motorcycle brand would believe that Mir would be a perfect substitute for Franco Morbidelli, with whom they are not convinced. A series that could be extended during the summer.
