Although they were going to discharge him due to his more than evident improvement and he was going to continue recovering at home with his family, finally Sergio Rico will have to spend a few more days at the Virgen del Rocío Hospital in Seville because he is going to have an operation. The goalkeeper will go through the operating room again, this time so that the professionals can treat the aneurysm that he suffers as a result of the head trauma caused by the accident with the horse.
The Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper suffered this accident at the El Rocío pilgrimage, Huelva, on May 28. Although the doctors acted quickly and transferred him by helicopter to the ICU of the Seville hospital, Rico spent weeks in an induced coma to repair the injuries, days full of uncertainty in which the athlete’s family and relatives suffered greatly.
After several attempts to remove the sedation, the Sevillian goalkeeper began to respond well to the different stimuli and gradually improved, something that greatly delighted his thousands of fans around the world.
Between the end of June and the beginning of July, the soccer player’s medical situation improved considerably: he was eating and was gaining weight, he was able to communicate with his family and he even left the Intensive Care Unit to continue his recovery on the ward. He also gathered enough strength to send a message to his fans through social media. The prognosis was good and the soccer player would leave the medical center sooner rather than later.
Although there is still not much information about this new intervention that the Andalusian goalkeeper has to undergo, the Mucho Deporte outlet has announced that the operation will take place next week, so Rico will still spend some time admitted to the medical center.
After Sergio Rico suffered the terrible accident in the Huelva town’s pilgrimage, everything clouded over for his family and loved ones. The days became eternal in the Sevillian hospital and the doctors could not give them any kind of progress or information, since the player was in a coma. Despite this, his relatives and especially his wife, Alba Silva, accompanied him with an optimistic attitude at all times. When he began to improve, the relatives told the press that they had a lot of faith in Rico because he is a brave and strong man.
It should be noted that, within what is possible, the footballer is lucky, since, according to what a source close to the family said, if the wound had been just half a centimeter deeper, it would have caused his death on the spot.
