Pets are no longer pets to be considered a member of the family. Every time we want them to be more present in our day to day and take them with us wherever we go, from going out for a drink to taking your pet on vacation.
Therefore, it is not surprising that we even want their presence and participation in important events and celebrations. According to a study by Rover.com, 51% of Spaniards want their pets to participate in their wedding. After surveying 1,000 engaged or newlywed dog owners, they found that 79% consider their dog part of the family and couldn’t imagine their wedding without them.
Speaking of traveling with dogs, 28% of respondents say they would take their pet on the honeymoon if they could. Likewise, 14% would be willing to spend up to 150 euros for their dog to attend the celebration in style. 38% of the already married respondents said they felt sorry for not having their dog on their big day.
Of course, 27% admit that their dog was not present because the venue did not allow pets, and 22% admit that their dog would not adapt well to a wedding environment. The latter is an important aspect, because even if we want to, sometimes our four-legged best friend would not feel comfortable in that environment. It is important to know your pet’s needs well before making the decision to include it or not in the wedding.
In this regard, a pet-friendly wedding venue is the priority of 89%. Many would even be willing to give up a group of guests in order to have their dog, while 22% admit that they would prefer inviting their pets over distant relatives and 18% would put them before friends from the university. Surprisingly, the survey results show that 5% would rather have their pet present at their wedding than their mother-in-law.
Regarding the role that the animal would play in the ceremony, 49% would give them a leading role; 42% would like them to be present in the photos of the ceremony and 19% stress that they would even like their pets to dance at their wedding. 27% of those surveyed would not have any problem with guests bringing their pets to the celebration and 46% would offer a specific menu for the attending dogs.
