Alberto Núñez Feijóo does not give up trying to form a government even if they tell him not to. The rejection of the PNB for the moment is saved and appealed to the PSOE, with the argument that “the State parties have won votes and seats”, while independence has lost support. He wants to negotiate “to give the Spaniards what they voted for at the polls”.
The president of the PP, who forgets that during the campaign he denied Sánchez’s PSOE the category of State party, now invites him to negotiate. “Spain deserves stability”, especially holding the presidency of the EU and having to negotiate the spending rule, which means that “times are coming that demand stability, centrality” and pro-European parties. “Europe’s fourth economy – he said – cannot be subjected to politicians, some of them refugees, and to parties that are not interested in Spain”.
For this reason, he assures, he will comply with the mandate given to him by the polls to form “a stable majority”. His hope is to speak with the PSOE next week, since in the messages Sánchez and Feijóo exchanged on election night, the president referred it to after the vote of the absent residents was known.
While Feijóo is focused on this effort, in the PP some voices rise up against him and others defend him. In the first group is the former president of Madrid Esperanza Aguirre, who in an event organized by The Objective pointed out “two manual errors in the campaign”. The first of the PP in its strategy towards Vox and the second of Santiago Abascal, who “have not been good” in the campaign. For the ex-president, it is difficult to sell the PP electorate that Sanchism must be repealed, and at the same time ask the Sanchists to vote. In his opinion, the speech should have been that Vox is a “perfectly constitutional” party and that agreeing with it is better for Spain than a PSOE pact with Bildu. But the speech, he stressed, was that “we like Page more than Abascal”. In addition, Aguirre does not hide his preference for Isabel Díaz Ayuso. “I will not be the one to bring you the opposite”, he replied to the lawyer Guadalupe Sánchez when she said that this speech about Vox cannot be made by the PP with Feijóo at the head and it must be the Madrid president who takes it on the responsibility
Contrary to the opinion of José María Aznar, through the publishing house of his foundation, FAES, in which he assures that “none of the errors or inadequacies that want to be noticed in the PP campaign can equal in their effects the role played by Vox”, and remembers that the PP must not forget that Abascal’s party emerged with the aim of replacing the PP”.
The FAES praises the reaction of Feijóo and his intention to form a government, and in the face of a possible repeat election, contrary to the opinion of Aguirre, who believes that the PP can be even worse, Aznar believes that the PP “has reasons for disappointment but not for discouragement”, and that the party “has a leader, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, who is in a position to continue adding and who will be the voice of reason amidst the cacophony of a left bloc that he assumes naturally to entrust himself to the decision of a refugee, responsible for the biggest attack against the Constitution”.
