The City Council of Terrassa has announced this Wednesday the transfer to the NGO Biciclot of more than a hundred abandoned bicycles for reuse.
The transfer is the result of the agreement signed in February 2022 between the city council and the NGO, by which Biciclot undertakes to collect abandoned bicycles; inform about the reuse of objects donated free of charge and participate in activities that are held in Terrassa and that are linked to the environment and sustainable mobility.
Since February 2022, some 400 abandoned bicycles have been delivered: 248 in six deliveries in 2022 and some 160 in two deliveries in 2023.
The consistory has made this Wednesday, the eighth delivery of bicycles, in an act that has had the presence of the deputy mayor of Territory and Sustainability, Xavier Cardona, and the head of production of Biciclot, Marcel Jobal Comas.
The consistory has donated more than a hundred units that were deposited in the municipal points of Can Casanoves or Can Barba and in the deposit of the Municipal Police.
For Cardona, this “is a way of reusing a material that is in disuse and that is considered municipal waste, to turn it into a resource.”
Biciclot is a non-profit organization located in Barcelona that promotes the bicycle as a means of sustainable transport.
One of their programs is to collect used bicycles to repair them and put them back on the road, making donations and returning them to the second-hand market; thus promoting the circular economy and responsible consumption with social and environmental values.
