We are used to removing the skin from many fruits, such as peach, banana, pear or kiwi. Something that some defend to reduce the possibility of ingesting residues of phytosanitary products, as well as possible environmental contaminants. However, we do not do that exercise with grapes, strawberries, cherries or apples, in some cases. And maybe we were wrong to eat them directly.
The popular chef José Andrés assures that it is very common for us to eat strawberries with their skins on, after washing them in the tap. But this is a mistake, argues the Asturian chef. And he invites you to experiment with other formulas to really know the flavor of this fruit.
“Have you ever peeled a strawberry? Trust me people… This is the way to experience one of the best berries our planet has to offer,” he explains in a post on his Instagram profile.
José Andrés refers his followers to a new episode of the Longer Tables podcast. There, he argues why we should eat the strawberries, but if we peel them first. “If you’ve never tried skinless strawberries, you don’t really know what this fruit is,” he goes on to say.
The Asturian chef maintains that “there is nothing similar to your lips touching a peeled strawberry”. “There you understand that the strawberry has been created to be loved by you… By everyone…”, he continues. Many will follow his advice and have already set to work. We only need a knife and we will know what this fruit really tastes like, according to José Andrés.
