The General Directorate of Water and the Alicante City Council have prohibited bathing between the beaches of Urbanova and San Gabriel this Friday, including the space set up for dog bathing, upon detecting abnormal levels of enterococci in the water analysis, for which reason The red flag has been placed immediately, following the established health and safety protocols.

The presence of this bacterium has been detected within the usual controls established in the Bathing Water Quality Control Program of the Generalitat Valenciana. Once notified of the situation and communicated by the General Directorate of Water of the results of the analyzes to the City Council, they immediately proceeded to notify the lifeguard and security services of the affected beaches where the red flag has been raised .

Both the Generalitat and the City Council have launched the procedures to control the situation, repeating the analyzes of the waters to monitor the evolution until the presence of the bacteria disappears and the beaches can be reopened. to the bathroom.

In the first checks carried out, possible discharges from the outfall and the treatment plant in the San Gabriel area have been ruled out, as well as leaks from the network controlled by Aguas de Alicante.
