Agents of the National Police and the Elx Local Police, in a coordinated operation, have arrested 17 people whom they accuse of simulating traffic accidents to claim compensation from insurers for the injuries allegedly suffered.

Sources from the Elche City Council explain that the police investigation was carried out for nine months due to the complexity of the matter and the number of people involved. The operation was launched after the opening of some proceedings by the Traffic Judicial Police Unit of the Elx Local Police Force, whose officers suspected that a group of people were simulating accidents in order to obtain compensation from insurers. .

In view of these facts, agents belonging to the Investigation Group for Patrimonial Crimes of the Judicial Police Brigade of the Elx National Police, with the close collaboration of the agents attached to the Traffic Judicial Police Unit of the Local Police, carried out an investigation with the aim of identifying and arresting all those involved in this alleged plot.

The Judicial Traffic Police Unit of the Elx Local Police, in charge of the reconstruction of road accidents, provided the data from the forensic analysis of the vehicles in order to prove that the accidents were not fortuitous, but simulated, and with the clear intention to collect the corresponding economic benefits.

Likewise, it was possible to prove the criminal collusion between several of those charged in two accidents that occurred in different municipal areas, since the occupants of the vehicles shared family ties and a close relationship, being able to verify that the culprit of both accidents, one that occurred in the Elx municipal term and another in Mutxamel, were the same person.

On the part of the Investigation Group of Patrimonial Crimes of the National Police, the necessary steps were taken for the full identification, location of all those investigated and their subsequent arrest for the alleged commission of the crimes of fraud, documentary falsification and criminal organization at the Police Station. of the Elx National Police, with the exception of three of those investigated who had to be charged with the events in the Fontcalent Penitentiary Center, in Alicante, since they were in prison for other events not related to the investigation.

The agents related to these scams, whose claims for compensation amounted to more than 60,000 euros, a total of 17 people, who had received some type of compensation from the insurers or had caused medical expenses for the alleged injuries suffered in the accidents. that were disbursed by the four insurance companies that received the claims.

The detainees, 11 men and 6 women, between 19 and 59 years of age, were made available to the Elx Investigating Court on duty.
