The Spanish women’s Under 19 team won the European Championship of the category in Leuven (Belgium) by winning the final in the penalty shootout against Germany, after drawing without goals after 90 minutes and extra time. In the penalty kicks, Spain scored the first three and Germany missed the last three, the first two saved by Txell Font.
The game was played in the rain and had few chances. This is the fifth title for the Spanish under 19 team in this championship and the first for Sonia Bermúdez as coach.
Spain started with the same eleven with which they defeated the Netherlands in the semifinal. In the first minutes they got very close to the rival area, but without creating any real danger against a very tough and physical opponent, who put a lot of pressure on them.
Until halfway through the first part, Germany practically did not cross into the Spanish field and although they forced several corners, they did not materialize their approach to Font’s area on occasions.
The second part began with the same game stuck and if possible more inaccuracies. After five minutes Sehitler had a one-on-one against the Spanish goalkeeper who sent off. Then Kett shot over the bar.
Olaya and Villafañe entered Spain to enliven the game. Wifi was injured and with ten in the field Lucía Corrales had the chance of the game in 88, but her shot crashed into the strain of the post.
Extra time saw both teams very tired, more concerned with not conceding a goal. Spain had more of the ball, but without any kind of bite. The title was going to be decided on penalties, as it already happened with these two teams in the Under 17 European Championship.
Txell Font, who had just saved a penalty in the semifinal, was decisive. Spain scored the first three penalties but missed the last two shot by Corrales and Villafañe. But Germany missed the last three. Txell stopped the third and the fourth while Deutsch sent the fifth directly out to give the title to La Rojita, who revalidates the championship.
