The Popular Party remains firm in its strategy of leading the negotiations for the investiture of its candidate, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, and, without changing a comma the message already transmitted by letter on Sunday, appeals to the power of the winning party at the polls to pilot the process while accusing the PSOE of “trying to whitewash their defeat” to hinder it.

“The President of the Government has a hard time recognizing Feijóo’s victory,” Elías Bendodo censured in an interview on Telecinco. And, asked about the reluctance of some potential partners of the PP to join forces, such as the Canarian Coalition (CC) and Unión del Pueblo Navarro (UPN), the general coordinator of the popular groups has stated that Pedro Sánchez “has no today more support than Feijóo for the investiture” so, “the right to appear is held by the winning party.”

Bendodo has avoided conditioning the negotiations with both parties and has not hesitated to defend the position of CC and UPN of wanting to “listen to all investiture proposals” such as Feijóo’s and Sánchez’s. And not even when he has been reminded that the Navarrese formation has asked the PP to “stop deceiving”, he has changed his tone, insisting that “everyone must be listened to”.

Bendodo has been more concise when asked about the meeting that Feijóo himself had last week with Santiago Abascal that the PP tried to keep secret and that he did not recognize until Vox reported it.

The general coordinator of the PP avoided detailing the keys to the meeting but framed it within the “democratic normality” for which Feijóo has been speaking with all the parties for some time: “With Abascal, with Sánchez and with Yolanda Díaz,” he specified.

However, he endorsed, as his general secretary, Cuca Gamarra, did yesterday, that “it is not planned” in the PP to hold talks with Junts, justifying that “the limits to dialogue and to be able to reach agreements are the Constitution.”
